It can be defined that Lolita is childlike innocence and old-fashioned elegance. Lolita fashion is a distinctive style which is mostly obvious from the Victorian and Rococo eras. But it has a lot of influence from the Edwardian period and even some 40s and 50s American clothing styles-any time peoriod in which fashion was elegant and beautiful.

 The Lolita fashion often adopts the bell-shaped skirts, which can provide the typical sihouette. But it is neither what can make something Lolita nor it is required of all Lolitas. As a matter of fact, there is no one item of clothing or a color and trim that can embody all that is Lolita. The Lolita fashion is a unique aesthetic that is hard to improve.

There also exist a Lolita lifestyle. It is not only wearing the clothes as common as possible but also taking part in Lolita activities and fllowing a certain code of etiquette. Sometimes it is merely a clothing style for some people. In some case, Lolita can be an escape from the mundane, or an attempt to return to a more innocent time in life. It is a little different to some people, but what Lolita has in common is a shared desire to wear really awesome clothes.

Lolita fashion was popularized by Visual Kei artists, such as Mana of Malice Mizer, they did not start the fashion itself. At this time, it was around that the Gtochic with black and white Lolita style became the most prominent. Currently the style has moved towards a much sweeter aestehtic.
